Terms of use
Updated on 11 October 2026
1. Purpose
These terms govern the use of the Hexomail app (Linux, Android), its web version (mail.hexonest.fr/app) and the associated online services, published by Hexonest SAS (see the legal notice).
Hexomail is intended for people aged 16 or over.
2. The app
Hexomail connects to the mail servers you specify, with the credentials you provide. You remain bound by the terms of your email providers (Google, Orange, your hosting provider…). Hexonest does not control these services and cannot be held responsible for their availability or for their decisions regarding your account.
3. Hexomail account
The Hexomail account is optional and reserved for people aged 16 or over. It is used for HexoTransfert, for syncing between your devices, for the web version and for paid services. You may only link to it addresses that you prove you own with a verification code. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential; if in doubt, change it from the app and sign out your other devices.
4. Web version
The web version displays in a browser the messages that your Hexomail device sends to it. It only works with the app installed on a device that is switched on and connected to the Internet and to your Hexomail account: if that device is switched off, offline or put to sleep by its operating system, the web version can neither display nor send anything.
Each session is authorised by you, on your device, after checking the code shown on both screens; you can restrict it to reading and revoke it at any time from your device. You are responsible for the sessions you authorise: only open the web version on a computer you trust and sign out after use.
The web version does not yet allow sending attachments or displaying remote images, and Gmail accounts connected with Google are not accessible from it. It is provided as is; its features may change.
5. Mailing lists
Hexonest hosts mailing lists for organisations. A list is created by Hexonest at the request of the organisation, which designates the Hexomail accounts authorised to manage it. The organisation is the controller of its subscribers' data; Hexonest acts as a processor (Article 28 GDPR), under the terms of a data processing agreement concluded with it, and does not use this data for any other purpose.
Rules for using lists
By managing a list, you undertake to:
- only add people who have agreed to receive your mailings, and keep proof of this; lists that are bought, rented, exchanged or built by harvesting addresses are prohibited;
- clearly state your identity as sender and a way to contact you in every message;
- leave its unsubscribe link in every message, and never re-subscribe a person who has unsubscribed;
- only send what subscribers signed up for, without misleading, unlawful or malicious content.
Hexonest may suspend a list, without notice in an emergency, if these rules are not followed, in the event of repeated complaints about unsolicited mailings (above 0.3% of recipients) or at the request of an authority. To report an abusive mailing received from a list hosted by Hexonest, write to bonjour@hexonest.fr with “Abus” (abuse) in the subject line, attaching the message received; we will check the report and reply to you.
6. Paid services
The image proxy, revealing opaque links and HexoTransfert lookups are paid services. They are not on sale yet; their terms (prices, payment, refunds) will be published here before they open.
7. Prohibited uses
It is prohibited to use Hexomail or its services to send unsolicited bulk messages, to impersonate a third party, to distribute unlawful content, or to disrupt the operation of the services (circumventing limits, attacks, automated collection).
8. Availability and liability
Hexonest endeavours to keep the online services available, without being able to guarantee this at all times. The app works without them for the essentials: fetching, reading and sending your messages. The web version, however, depends on our relay and on the availability of your device. Hexonest cannot be held responsible for the loss of messages on your providers' servers.
9. Personal data
See the Data and security and Privacy pages.
10. Changes and governing law
These terms may change; the date of the last update is shown at the top of the page. They are governed by French law.
